Health insurance coverage is a major expense for employers, especially for small businesses. As many struggle with the continued economic fallout of the pandemic, some faced end-of-year renewal deadlines they could not afford.

Health insurance options are available to those who lose health coverage. These include Affordable Care Act marketplace plans, short-term health plans,  and coverage under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, known as COBRA.

On February 15, 2021, in accordance with the Executive Order signed by President Biden, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for the Health Insurance Marketplace® would become available to consumers in the 36 states that use the HealthCare.gov platform, which includes Ohio. This Special Enrollment Period will continue through Saturday May 15, 2021.
