At Ohio Health Benefits, we’re committed to making your Medicare experience as seamless as possible. One important aspect of managing your Medicare plan is understanding your payment options, especially if you’re enrolled in a plan through the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (M3P).

What is M3P?

The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan is a payment option in the prescription drug law that works with your current drug coverage to help you manage your out-of-pocket costs for drugs covered by your plan by spreading them across the calendar year (January–December). Anyone with a Medicare drug plan or Medicare health plan with drug coverage (like a Medicare Advantage Plan with drug coverage) can use this payment option. All plans offer this payment option, and participation is voluntary.

Is M3P Necessary for You?

It’s important to note that the M3P program is really only necessary for those with very high-cost medications under their Part D plan. A large percentage of Medicare beneficiaries do not need the program, as they don’t typically have drug costs that require special handling through M3P. Enrolling in the program when it’s not needed can complicate things and may lead to unnecessary administrative steps. We recommend evaluating whether the M3P program is right for you, as for most members, it’s not essential.
