2025 has been a challenging year for Medicare Advantage insurers. Most national carriers are facing higher-than-expected claims combined with reduced funding from the federal government.
Ironically, 2025 also brought some of the strongest medical and supplemental benefits we’ve ever seen in Medicare Advantage plans—think dental, vision, and OTC cards. As popularity has surged, some insurers are enrolling more members than they can manage.
For the first time, we’ve seen two popular plans stop paying broker commissions as a way to limit enrollment. Since commissions are our only means of compensation in this market, these changes are forcing us to rethink how we operate. What hasn’t changed, however, is our commitment to you—our clients. Providing clear guidance, trustworthy advice, and exceptional customer service will always remain at the center of what we do.
We anticipate a shift in 2026, with benefits significantly tightening. Expect higher co-pays, increased out-of-pocket limits, and scaled-back extras like dental and OTC allowances. While these adjustments may seem like a step back, they could be a healthy correction, similar to a stock market dip.
We’re also seeing signs that some national carriers may pull out of specific markets altogether to rein in costs. This means some members will find their plans discontinued in 2026 and need to choose a new one.
That said, there’s no need for concern if you’re an OHB Medicare Advantage client. We expect 2026 plans to remain strong but skinnied-down. In fact, rising Medicare Supplement and Part D premiums may prompt more clients to consider a $0 premium Medicare Advantage Plan as a viable option.
